Book, there is a "normal people" thread? I don't think any of us would fit there.😁

I didn't even realize that you have to go to the main page to see recent activity. I always navigate to my newsfeed that is what I have my shortcut set to. I will use the caregiver forum. It does seem to be very quiet around here since the change. Missing Garden Artist, especially. Gardening as therapy is a nice normal people thread, I guess. We all have our normal moments I suppose. 😉

In all the 5-6 years on this site, I automatically hit my News Feed. I scroll down to see what's up with the normal people/thread that I follow. If something I find interesting posted by another poster from the News Feed, I pop in to the thread and read.... After I'm done catching up with the News Feed, I automatically look at the "Recent Community Activity" to see if anything catches my attention.

While posting or reading on the other threads like Whine or Dysfunction, etc... I do periodically check on "Recent Community Activity" because that is always changing by the latest post (whether a new question or a recent answer.)

Yes, even in this new site, I find myself automatically looking on the right to see the activity - only to remember it's gone.

P.S. when I first found this site, the Home Page was very helpful for me. When I was considering POA, I automatically checked there, too. But most of the time, I automatically go to News Feed.

I go right to my news feed and I miss the "Recent Community Activity" too. I would love to see it come back. Somehow scrolling through the threads under the various headings in the Caregiver Forum isn't as appealing, nor is the front (main) page. The other was so convenient and updated as the threads were answered. The current pages (above) are so spread out it is hard to grab what is happening at the moment - or something like that.

Thanks for all your work.

Even though the shortcut on my laptop goes to the main page, I almost always click straight through to my News Feed without stopping to read the things on that page. I see the current threads at the top of that main page and I am using it some.

I have this perception that more quantity of users are finding current threads this way, as these threads are staying active for days longer and getting more comments than they did previously imo. That's only my perception and could be your metrics indicate something else, I have no idea.

I think an ideal situation might be to leave the row of current threads on main page and add a column similar to the old one on the right of user's news feeds, so that would be two ways, not just one, to access current questions/discussions.

I tend to check the main forum page in the morning to get a general idea of what has been posted since I logged out, then will log in to comment or check my news feed.

Hurrah! A sentence I understand.

Yes, I do navigate directly to my News Feed.

I must admit I didn't know there was another way of using AC..?

Happy weekend, everyone! Thanks for the more specific feedback. We have implemented some changes to the font colors and weights and continue to work on specific requests.

One of the larger issues that we are hearing is sort order, please understand that everyone prefers to sort their answers differently, so we can't win by choosing one. We have heard the requests, and we are working on a tech solution that would allow for your preferred sort order to save while logged in so that you don't have to re-sort each thread.

The reason I'm here now is to clarify another specific request. On the old site, there was a small box in the right column titled "Recent Community Activity" that listed 5 items and was only present while you were using your newsfeed. Are you looking for that element to be brought back? I hate to ask this on the open forum but are any of you willing to share exactly how you use the site. Do you navigate directly to your newsfeed and not use the main caregiver forum page? More specific information and requests are very useful to us in determining our focus. Thanks!

Becky, you could always start a new thread. You never know what will resonate with others in your situation. Just put it out there, if you would benefit from it. That's enough of a reason to start a new thread, for sure!

CM, Golden, et al, I think the "featured threads" row at the top of the main screen is supposed to be the new way AC tells us what threads are active on any given day. But I don't like it as much and I can't figure out exactly why. Used to be the "highlight column" on the right side was based on last active thread, am I remembering that correctly? So then it was a listing of the last 5 or so threads someone posted or commented on. The row of thread links at the top of main page seems to be trying to do the job of the old column-on-the-right. But... it doesn't work as well for me, either.

Thanks CW. Probably end up just sucking it up. My situation isn’t dire and I have plenty of support and help. Maybe I’m just whining over nothing and should accept my situation and move on.

IDK Becky, I think you might try looking at support groups targeted at those with your conditions or generalized ones for those with disabilities.

Golden and CM I miss that right hand column too. It made it very easy to get a snap shot of activity. I don’t think there is nearly as much activity as with the old site.

Does anyone know of a website for people who are receiving care. I’m finding being on the other side of the caregiving issue frustrating. I have way more help than most people, and I’m very capable and able of taking care of many tasks myself, but sometimes it is difficult. And things crop up that one never thinks of. Maybe a new thread on this site?

I miss it too, cm. The news feed with the column on the right gave a very good snapshot of what was happening on the site and you could respond quickly. The new site does not provide this as easily. I find I am less likely to search through the various menu items and interact with threads.

I miss the menu of headlines down the right hand side. The news feed doesn't do the same job, does it, or is it just me?

I'm still struggling with the site but like everything else technology is getting beyond me
except for a few irks the old site was so much more user friendly

I think part of the problem with change of any kind is having to adjust your thinking. I enjoy posting on here and if the admin. don't change back to the old site then I guess I'll just have to adjust. Anything worth doing sometimes requires a little bit of difficulty but I enjoy my friends on here and knowing that something I say might help someone keeps me coming back.

But........having said that I do miss the old site too!

The only way there will be changes to the site is if there is a noticeable decrease in the overall number of people using the site - advertisers only care about how many people visit the site and see their ads and could care less whether people are coming back more than once.

Seems obvious to me we’re losing some our posters, people whose thoughts I miss, who either aren’t bothering anymore, or are checking in far less often due to the frustrations of the update. The unneeded update seems to have alienated the very people who the site depends upon. Things that make you go hmmmm......

I still find the site difficult to read. The section on popular questions have been on here for a long time. I don’t think there are many new questions. Bring back the option of using the old site.

I don't like the statement this discussion is closed. Maybe those should be placed by themselves. I also don't see as many frequent postings and keep seeing same ones without really recent replies. I don't understand how those achieve heading the list. I wish there was an update section for those with truly difficult problems that seem REAL
I often wonder how they are coping.

I really miss the photos that use to grace the articles written by Aging Care. So when I am searching for an article for a question, I know I had landed on the correct article. Plus the photo would give the article a bit of friendliness. Now it just looks like a book report :P

I am one of the oldest first type of people.... but all the clicking involved as when I am finished with that thread, I will click back to get the main page of questions/discussions. Click, click, click, click, rinse, repeat. I would also like it if the software would allow us to choose which format we like, newest first or oldest first, and keep it that way.

I have done "Searches" for people that I followed on the old website as I have not seen any postings from them on the new website.

When you do a "Search" for a person, that person's postings or answers or questions are NOT listed in chronological order.  The dates skip around from June 2018 to April 2018 to Aug 2017 to Aug 2018 to Dec 2016 to Sept 2015 to July 2018.

Also, when I do a "Search" I am finding postings or questions that I have NEVER seen on the "Need Answers" or "Recent Questions" lists.  It seems like the same questions are listed day after day after day with only 4-5 new questions instead of the 10-20 new questions that we used to have on the old website.

Why do 90% of questions only have TWO ANSWERS and only a few questions have more than FIVE answers? or have 10+ answers?

The color scheme is giving me a headache.  Can I change the background color?

Yes, there is that Stacey. You need to come around more often😉 it may become very irritating for you too.

And like Book said if it would just remember which way we left it the last time.

This is my new pet peeve.

I always enter a thread, hit "oldest first" button, then hit the "button (》)" that takes you to the very end, then hit the "back button (<)" to take me to where I've left off, especially on the really old threads that I follow religiously. It's a couple of quick steps, but works every time!

I soooo agree, Glad! When you're page 4, you have to scroll to the bottom and read UP as you follow the thread. Then when you hit page 3, it opens automatically to the top. So, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom, to read in chronological order, and scroll up reading. Then you hit page 2, you're on the top...scoll all the way down... etc...

AND, when I open a page, I automatically hit END, before I realize that I just moved to the answers from the beginning.

Solution:
1. Give us this option in our Profile (can a programmer confirm if this possible?)

2. If we open a thread and hit Oldest First, can that thread "Remember" this preference for future visits. Like the Old site.... Unless of course we clean our history/cache, it would default back to Newest First.

3. Make all the threads open automatically to Oldest First (which may not be very popular to most.)

Report

I have to agree, Smeshque. I understand and respect that AgingCare must do what they feel is best for their business. But.... Having to click and click to see a simple list of questions and discussions makes the forum much less visually appealing to me, less enticing. Add the small font size and I just find myself spending my internet time elsewhere.

I just really don't like the new one. Miss the old one. Just really don't like it. :(

Well, I guess I am getting used to it.

One thing that is very irritating to the point I will not read a thread, is the box to select "oldest first", "newest first"!

I know there are some that prefer newest first, but I need to read the entire thread to figure out what has been said already. So, "newest first" does not make reading a thread easy and I may skip it entirely.

Why not place the oldest/newest drop down in the "Profile" or "Settings" area? Then we could choose how we prefer to read a post.

Why am I getting threads posted to my newsfeed that I am not following nor commented on?

OK, I r e a l l y h a t e ! ! ! the reply to an individual poster thing. I'll see that someone has made a comment - which often looks out of context on the news feed - but when I go to the thread I have to search for it buried somewhere down the page. I don't see any benefit from it, if I want to connect with someone directly I can post a PM, otherwise I'd just as soon make a comment part of the general conversation and relevant to anyone.
