My dad has this and has been referred to a dermatologist. They can't see him until Nov 5.
He can hardly walk or put weight on his leg. He also can't get up from sitting position. He is complaining of pain, which is not like him at all.
I am very concerned. Any advice?
The doctor said the cause is thinning skin, poor circulation, and mild diabetes ( under control).
After reading all your answers, I'm going to call the doctor's office today. Thank you so much!
Unless you're confident that everything that should have been checked has been checked, I'd be back to the doctor with him reporting the change of gait and the difficulty rising. Just because one problem has been identified doesn't mean there isn't another.
I would personally ask the referring doctor about possible otc pain meds that could help with this, even if he can't be seen by a dermatologist right away you could probably manage to ask one about it over the phone, or have an advice nurse ask them about this for you. Look up the condition on Web MD and read about common symptoms, If he starts to show other symptoms that may point to something else or has horrible worsening pain I would personally consider the ER.
I'm not a doctor or anything this is just my personal opinion. Hope it helps!
Oh! Also, I was told that calling in the morning 30mins - 1 hr after the dermatologist office opens and again an hour before they close to check for cancellations could also help get you in sooner if they do not have a wait list to put you guys on.
Good luck!
