I've seen these on-line, at a specialty store that I can't remember the name of and at Amazon, and have decided to make one for my Dad with some items I already have. I figure if he likes it and uses it I will purchase one. They're a 'muff', like you might use in the winter, that the person can put his/her hands in. Inside might be a squeeze ball to keep the hands occupied. There are also other gadgets/items sewn around the bag to keep the hands and fingers busy so the person isn't constantly picking at his/her hands, fiddling with other things, etc. Does anyone have one of these and does it work?

yaya, no offense! I thought it was a funny name myself when I first saw it. Horserider, that's a great idea regarding the toolbelt. I might try that out. Thanks!

OK so I have to agree with your Dad the "not manly" verdict of a "twiddle muff"...sorry. Maybe a tool-belt apron like workmen use for tools? It would be on his lap when he sits. They used to have them at Home Dept pretty cheap, & maybe you could sew on a fabric tab or attach a key chain fob, or something else that could be "picked at". Could also be used for Kleenex storage, remote or ?. Just trying to come up with random solutions that are "manly"....

virtualhorizon- it WAS a good idea and it's a shame your dad didn't have a more positive response after all your efforts. I wish I could offer another solution. Don't give up on it though...as jeannegibbs suggested, keep it within his reach. Maybe he'll go back to it on his own.
(I hope I didn't offend you by poking fun at the name...if so, I apologize)

Dad just seems to want to fidget and pick with his hands all the time! I thought this would be a good idea, but he just really showed no interest. Which isn't out of the ordinary, as at this point he really has no interest in anything. I figured it would be a way to get his mind off the 'strings' on his fingers, and that fact that 'his fingers are falling off'. So sad.... I don't know where he gets the ideas sometimes.

So it isn't just me...thank you!! it IS a great idea...the ones they show on the "official" Twiddle Muff website are cute, but nothing particularly manly there either. It just SOUNDS like something that belongs on a shelf in one of "those" stores...next to the blow up dolls.
Oh dear, it's late and I think I'm getting punch-drunk.

oh giggles! I ignored this question when it first came out - because I thought it was probably a topic that needed deleting. Now I wonder if one of the guys at the nursing home would prefer a twiddle muff to the work gloves his family ties on his hands to protect his face. Now I suspect he has work gloves for the manly reason.

I was curious what this was so I googled it....what a creative idea! Too bad your dad didn't go dor it virtual....maybe if you made one that looked like a football? Just a thought...
It's a great concept, but I just have to ask: does anyone else find the name for it a tad....umm...suggestive? Sorry if I offend anyone....send me a cyber slap, tell me to get my mind out of the gutter. I just had to say it.

LOL ... not manly! Oh my!

Well, it was a nice try, and maybe he'll forget that he is supposed to be macho and use it. If not, donate it to a day health center. Maybe some ladies will like it.

Look up "fidget toys" online for lots of other ideas for keeping hands occupied. Maybe you'll be inspired with more manly ideas.

Well, I made the muff and gave it to my dad. He squeezed on the ball for a while, then put it aside. He hasn't touched it since. I asked him what he thought about it, and he said that it "wasn't a manly gift"! I left it with him though...maybe he'll forget it isn't manly and try to use it.

I have not heard of that one. Sounds like a good idea for those that pick.

I used to have a little fake fur muff as a lass. And a matching fake fur cap with fluff balls at the end of the ties. And I would wear them and go caroling. I thought I was quite the Shirley Temple. Hee hee.

I'd never even heard of this. If it sounds like your dad will use it - I'd definitely give it a try. Good luck!!
