For the place in NJ that we thought mom was going to, the costs have come in very high. There are all sorts of fees that do not necessarily apply now, but may in the future. They can also revise her care level at any time, and the cost jumps are significant.
Any tips? Lessons learned?

Find Care & Housing
Your odds will be higher if the facility is independently owned (privately owned.) Your odds will be higher if there are a lot of vacancies.

lbeachmike, please note there is usually a waiting list of people who want to get into a Memory Care facility, so negotiating won't do anything. The facility will just say "no" and move onto the next person on the waiting list.

One set price for everyone in the Memory Care facility actually helps keeps the monthly rent lower than if every person had different line items on their bill. Line items is more time consuming for accounting to deal with... new items going on a list... old items going off... rinse... repeat for every resident residing at the facility.

There is not one set price. The prices are very individual. There is also not always a waiting list. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
