When we are on the forum and answering the OP on their thread, why is it that you can reply to some people and not to others. I find it aggravating when I can’t reply to someone because there is no reply under their name.

Then I have to go all the way to the top of the thread and type out their name and answer them. Mine has a reply after it. Others don’t. It’s just aggravating that some do and some don’t and I have to go to the top of the thread to answer.

Can AgingCare help me with this? Is this a privacy issue?

Cwillie and Isthisrealyreal are correct in their description of the functions. Questions and discussions have different functionality. When a user asks a question, the reply function is available. The user is looking for answers, therefore side conversations directed to other users may become a distraction from the overall list of answers. For this reason the ability to reply directly to the user is available in an effort to keep the answers on topic. There is only one layer of "nesting" and it appears you all tested and figured out that replies sequentially fall under the answer by hitting the reply button.
Although sometimes it's a hard distinction, Discussions are meant to be just that. More free flowing, and by design not as necessary to remain on topic. The nested reply is not available in discussion threads, as we feared entire discussions would then become collapsed under a single comment.
Lastly, if "using a person's name" means clicking their blue username, what you are referencing is messaging. Messaging is a function users are allowed to control within their profile settings . Some users prefer to close access to all of their profile information, including the ability to be messaged by other users. The message button/field will not be available on their profile page.
Feel free to reach out to us anytime for further clarification.

Kimkim, is that a space between names? As Kim kim?
Also, can you tell me how to enter something into discussion instead of questions. When I ask something the only things that pop up for me are topics. I never see the heading "discussion". I have seen things moved from topics to discussion when needed. I know there must be a way I am missing.

AgingCare doesn't want to encourage side conversations that spin off (often acrimoniously) from the OP's thread - at least I assume that's the motivation. For most of my time on the forum there was no ability to reply at all.

Denimo66 asked the question. It wasn’t a discussion. The question was stepdad is hoarding, any suggestions? I was trying to reply to Shad and it wouldn’t let me reply. I had to go to the top of the page and say Shad.

You have to reply to the person that was replied to.

So you answer and then I respond to you, you have to respond to you and that will show up under my response.

You can only when it is a question. Discussions do not have that option.

"Isthisrealyreal,"

Since you were so helpful last night, I have another question for you. Have you ever seen a comment and a response disappear? I know there was an additional comment/response between the OP and myself, but it's not there today.

I know it got late and I was getting silly with this thread (actually, I just reread it and laughed all over again) but, I didn't have a glass of wine!! It also seems like it has happened once or twice before. Any ideas?

Just curious, is there an OP question you can tell me where that happened so I can go look at it. I think I know what you mean though about having to go above whoever commented last and type in the Post Answer box addressing the specific "screen name" of who you want to reply to.

"elaine1962," - I've wondered the same thing. Some OP questions seem to have just a "like" icon and others have both the "helpful answer" icon and the "reply to ---". Sometimes, I've wondered if it was just a glitch.

See, I’m able to reply to you, but not others. I find it aggravating sometimes because I have to go all the way to the top of the page and use that persons name instead of the OP and then it sounds like I am talking to the other person instead of the OP.

All I wanted to do was “reply “ to something that someone else said.
