As of February of last year my mother had to have back surgery, nothing went according to plan is now confined to a wheelchair. Recently we spent a month in the hospital at a inpatient rehab, she was diagnosed with copd and now is on oxygen full time. I have given up on getting a job because she need 24 hour care. She also needs assistance in going to the restroom, showers, and transfers to and from chairs, beds, etc. So is there a program through any organization where caregivers can receive anything financially?

Could your mother pay you a salary for being her caregiver? That seems to be the most common way for financial support. I know that Medicaid won't pay a relative for home caregiving as it is less expensive to have that person living in a nursing home.

Otherwise, call your local Council on Aging and see if there are any programs where an Aide can visit your home for a couple of hours a day, to give you a break, without any charge to your Mother.
