Yes, one car per couple is allowed under Medicaid. Buying a new car is one of the "spend down" suggestions a social worker gave me.

If you are already on Medicaid you have a case worker -- actually, probably a social case worker and a financial case worker. I urge you to get advice that is specific to your state and your situation.

Maybe, if you see a hard time ahead for you, this would be a good time to take a lovely vacation. Talk it over with your case worker! And best of luck to you using this nice windwall in a way that makes your life a little brighter or a little easier.

Isn't a car allowed under medicaid rules

That would not be allowed. Has to be something like a wheel chair, cane, things to help the patient, but not a car.

What if I use the money to pay bills such as paying off my car?

You will probably not be eligible for Medicaid until you have spent that money on yourself, such as a few payments for your care-center or your in-home care, or installing a walk-in tub, or buying a fancy wheelchair, etc. Discuss this with your case worker, who will know the exact rules in WV, and can give you some guidance in how to spend the money and then get back on Medicaid.
