My Mom lives on her own in Texas but I'm noticing she might need some assisted living options. Maybe start off in independent living but move to assisted? I live in Ohio so it's hard to manage this stuff from a distance. My brother lives in Texas near her. My Aunt lives near her too. I'm researching places here as well as in Texas. She has no savings. Just lives off her social security which isn't much but it also isn't at the poverty level. How do families afford to get their loved one into an assisted living community? They are so expensive.
google care advisors and find an independent that is local. They will help guide you. They are paid by the facility for placement . They know what’s available, cost , your needs, reputation etc….I used a company called care patrol, a franchise, they helped me place my mom, FIL, MIL …very helpful…
My mom and dad had an income of $2000 a month when dad had to take early retirement. My brother added an apartment on to his home and moved mom & dad in. 25 years mom was there, she just passed away a month ago.
She was incredibly lucky that she had a 'free' place to live, b/c she could not have afforded any kind of decent living arrangements.
You're probably looking at Medicaid at some point. I don't know much about how that works. Many, many families simply make up the difference between what a parent can pay and what the cost of the facility is. We were getting to that point with mother before she died.
I hope that you find something out there that might work, but I don't feel hopeful from what I know. I hope others have some good ideas for you and I wish you luck.
