Hi you’ve all been helpful to me I. Past. Looking for advice on above. Have tried for 8 months to move dad close to me in Buffalo from Philly. Now he’s finally agreed and his choices are minimal but I found a place by me and they’ll take him and hospice is ready too. He’s just started morphine yesterday and I think he’s fading fast but wants to get there. Looking at medical transport. There are so many. Have made one call and liked what they offer but can’t do until next Wednesday and I worry about that. Dr and nurses said he’s not ready yet and can handle the ride and there will be LPN w him. Has anyone used any transports you’re happy w ? Not happy w? I am aware of the cost. Thanks. Just need to make this happen if it’s the last thing I do for him

Buffalogal, I'm so sorry for your loss, but so so glad you were with him when he passed. May you be comforted by this, and loving memories. May you receive peace in your heart as you move through your grief.

Thanks w stone for all your help . In the end. I managed to arrange everything for him here, transport, hospice, skilled nursing and he was ready, but 4 days before we were going to move him I got the call to go to Philly. He had a very fast decline and he knew I was there and I slept in his room with him and sang him his favorite song while he took his last breath 3 days later. It was tough but I have no regrets. And he’s at peace and I’m good with a
that thanks to all of you for being a great support during our journey.

Praise The Lord that you were able to be a comfort during his last days and you are doing well.

It is a new season in your life and you truly have a good start because you were able to do this with no regrets.

May The Lord bless you on your new season.

I have the same thought as Hothouse, you go to him.

Medicare will need to be notified of Change
of address. Since he is on hospice, there should be no hospital or doctor's visits. I would call United to find out if Dad can transfer his policy to ur State.

From what you wrote, it sounds like the end is nearing.

It’s too bad your dad didn’t agree to travel sooner, but I think he might be better off staying where he is now.

It is not what he wants but to have all this disruption if he is actively dying doesn’t sound good either.

You should be focused on just being with him now and not trying to pull rabbits out of hats trying to coordinate all this.

I would keep him where he is for his final days.

As mentioned above, if he needs insurance at all, it's not going to fly.

I moved my mother from one icounty to the next, and her Medicare supplemental insurance had to be notified two weeks before the end of the month. Well, we found a place on the 28th of June and moved her on the 3rd of the July, so she didn't have local medical coverage until August 1. Her old Doctor was able to prescribe her meds for July, but she had to have a physical after moving to the new place, and I paid out of pocket.

She fell on her third day at the new place and was taken in an ambulance to the ER, had stitches, and was admitted. Fortunately, it was covered, but that could have been hairy, too.

Mind you, if Dad is going straight onto hospice this may not matter, but know what you're dealing with before doing this move.

Dont you have to switch Medicare and all that between states? Is he private pay right now in his current facility? What is his end of life estimate from the doctors and hospice?

No, Medicare is national but if you have a supplement / Medigap plan it may not be as "portable", you'd be going outside of the approved network of providers.

Why don't you go on Nextdoor.com and ask for recommendations for medical transport companies in your area?
