She'd polish off 24 yogurts in 3 days, the kids sweets, everything. I'm hiding stuff everywhere. Now I can't even get groceries and she's eating my husband and two boys and me out of house and home. I don't know what to do. She is having memory issues and was given a memory test for baseline and did poorly. We had a video appointment and I just saw the notes. It now says dementia. I just read a few of these comments and see this might be a symptom. Are appetite suppressants out of the question? She lives with our family. I can't keep hiding food. I can't keep lecturing her. I'm not working and our budget cant keep up with her appetite. All we do is fight. HELP.
I think my mother was eating partly out of boredom, partly because she saw food, and in her mind, food was for eating, so she ate and ate. Also, many dementia patients start to like sweet food and eat more of it. My mom didn't used to like sweet, but now she would finish a whole chocolate bar if I let her.
