She sees small children, hears my father in the basement. No basement in the apartment and he passed away 11 years ago. Thinks she’s invited people over and then gets upset when they don’t come over.

She had a uti a few weeks ago and was treated for it. Was put on a medication for Schizophrenia and bipolar. Seemed to be doing great, now it’s happening again. Anyone have experience with this? Should I take her to the hospital?

Hi nitsirk, was your Mom tested after finishing the course of antibiotics for recent UTI? My Mom was treated and then retested and needed another round. Wondering if your Mom still has a UTI? You could try the dip strip tests available at pharmacies. I always keep those on hand.

No she wasn’t, that is what I was wondering. I will give that a try. 😕 Thank you!

Hi! First it would be helpful if you could fill in your profile, for example your mother’s age, care requirements etc.

A diagnosis for schizophrenia is usually made early in life, late teens and twenties. Thinking that someone is alive when they are actually long gone, and hearing voices, is commonly part of dementia. Bipolar as well sounds odd at this age. Are you quite confident about the medical advice here?

You can get a lot of information about hallucinations on this site. Click on ‘Care Topics’ at the top right of the screen and you get an alphabet. Click on H for Hallucinations and there are basic articles, plus old questions and discussions. You might start with this one:

Thank you Margaret, I do believe she has moderate dementia. The Schizophrenia/bipolar looking back has always been there undiagnosed.
She has never been proactive with her health and has many abnormal behaviors, reactions and loves to feel sorry for herself. Well her doctor I feel is complacent like her, which is why she refuses to switch. I will add to my profile. Thanks again!

Does she take Ambien?   It can cause hallucinations.
