I just received a private message from "Sarah48" promising me $8.5MM dollars from somewhere. If anyone else gets a similar message, please understand this is the Nigerian scam that gets either personal information or asks for money from you in the hopes of getting more money.

Aging Care moderators, please check out Sarah48 and delete the account immediately! I had no way to report her message other than to post it here.

O h gosh, I feel so special ;-)). I get at least one of those scam letters per week in my regular email. Must be my great smile
(false teeth) and winning personality. {:-))
Seriously, am glad to hear that the feebs are on the job. Several years ago a friend of mind fell for the scam and was a long time getting it straightened out.

Hahahaha Eyerishlass they didn't go after you because they KNEW you were too smart to fall for their b.s. They only went after people they thought were naive dopes, like me, LOL!! :)

SoDone, actually and fortunately there is a lot that can be done by federal and international authorities and cybercrime task forces. Every computer has its own identification (IP address) which can be traced, although sometimes not easily. Hackers and criminals use multiple routes across the world to hide their trails, but often can be located. Sometimes they use computers at coffee houses or other commercial places.

But the technicians for the good guys (us!) can also determine the ISPs (Internet Service Providers), contact them, and with their assistance locate the miscreants.

I don't recall when it was but I recently heard on the news that some of the Nigerian scammers were found, tried and jailed. If you're interested, Google "Nigerian Scams, convictions."

Here's an interesting insight into the scams the FBI is investigating: http://www.fbi.gov/scams-safety/fraud

So, yes, the good guys (and gals) do sometimes win!

Eyeirshlass, I didn't get one of the scame messages either. Guess that makes two of us that aren't "good enough to scam!"

I contacted AC and they emailed me back and said they took it down.

Wow! It's been awhile since I heard of this kind of thing. I doubt there's anything that can be done about it if the request originated from some miscreant hunched over a computer in an internet cafe in Abuja.

Admin just take out my reposting of it. I should have removed their personal email from my posting. Thanks.

Please try to avoid reposting the message. We do not want to support this scammer, especially when they have their personal email in the posting.

I used the above info from garden artist to send a message to admin. Unfortunately I deleted the message but I think someone copy/pasted it so others can read it. Just get out the word to everyone about this scam.I also got the same message on my wall.

I never open any mail that I don't recognize the sender name. Those emails can also be a way to send viruses to your computer and access all your info once opened.

We have removed and blocked that member from the site. Thank you for letting us know and we are working on trying to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thank you!

Blannie and GladImHere, you could also report this message to Yahoo (probably something like Abuse@Yahoo.com) so they can delete Sarah's account, if the scammer hasn't simply appropriated a legitimate Sarah's account. But at leas they could trace the account and take action as well.

Blannie and GladImHere, don't delete the messages - the Admins and IT staff will need them to get the IP address of Sarah48 and block the scammer as well as report the scam attempts to the appropriate federal authorities.

I got it too.

It would seem unusual that they target one person. I wouldn't be surprise if others have gotten these solicitations as well.

Should add that it might be that I'm not getting them any more because they've been taken care of by law enforcement agencies. Hopefully.

When I did get them I forwarded the entire message, with added full headers, to my ISP.

AgingCare can detect the scammer's IP address and report it to authorities.

Geez, I hope it wasn't only ME that they targeted, now I'll get a complex, LOL!

For everyone: This is the "contact us" form URL:

I'm wondering if anyone else has been contacted by this scammer. I've had a lot of these Nigerian scam attempts sent to my personal e-mail address, but not for a few years as Norton is apparently filtering them out.

Blannie, thanks for the alert.

Thanks Garden Artist. This was a private message on my wall. It's probably also good to have it out here as others might not have experience with these kinds of scams if they get a private message. :)
