My mother takes very little medication.......basically, Gabapentin & Wellbutrin...........but lost most of her sense of smell years ago. She's 93. As far as I'm concerned, age makes a person lose their sense of smell. Oh, and dementia, too. Which is why a person suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's can easily die from noxious fumes ....... because they can't smell them!

I would check the person's meds especially any new ones introduced. Have not heard about losing ur smell because of COVID but it makes sense.

Does the person have any cognitive decline? If so, losing ur smell is a sign of Dementia.

Increasing evidence suggests that a lost sense of smell, known medically as anosmia, may be a symptom of COVID-19. This is not surprising, because viral infections are a leading cause of loss of sense of smell, and COVID-19 is a caused by a virus.

I have a close friend whose doctor told him he had temporarily lost his sense of smell due to using Zicam nasal swabs.

Many. I think that you should approach it from the opposite end, look at your medications and research all their side effects, keeping in mind that polypharmacy can exacerbate them.

Amiodarone can affect smell, as well as taste.   A neurologist, NP and cardiologist told us that.

You only need to post your question, once, then be patient. Covid causes loss of sense of smell.

As we get older we tend to lose our sense of smell a long with taste. We always talk about how are LO can't hear and see as common problems, but it is common to lose our sense of smell and taste--we just don't talk about it for some reason...I guess it is because it doesn't seem to be that big problem!

That’s a common problem with the elderly and now listed as a forerunner symptom for the virus. Watch for other symptoms. Be sure to take temp. everyday.
