I am almost 80 and want to find a place near Springfield new jersey for living with minimal assistance? I drive and walk with a cane and have Medicare insurance? I will be moving to the Springfield Jersey area from Pennsylvania soon.

This is an expensive area. Its considered a suburb of NYC.

I recommend an Assisted Living. You can get help when needed but still have your independence. But these are private pay. I live in the South. I would find a residence that takes Medicaid. In NJ if you pay privately for at least two years, you can apply for Medicaid but the residence has to have a Medicaid room available. If you can't afford an AL or buy into a care community, your only other option would be Medicaid. You do not look like you are ready for Longterm Care, though, and thats all they pay for. Medicaid does have an in home program. Moving into NJ from another state, you may have to establish residency.

A heads up, do you have tradition Medicare and a suppliment or Medicare Advantage. Supplimentals and MAs do not go over State lines like Medicare does. Meaning, you will have to apply for insurance in NJ.

So you are making a move.
Is this move to be closer to family?
If so, I would ask family to explore a bit for you. To find out what is available.

First comes the move I would think. At your age, that alone is not easy. What assistance of family and friends do you have in making this move, and what has decided you upon it?
