Both in our 80s; spouse with mid-stage dementia (hospice home care). Finances are combined/mixed & neither of us has will or other documents. Tried online to find eldercare attorney, but tons of useless info and ads popped up. Do not know any neighbors in community; never had friends here (don't ask why we moved & lived here); do not know how to begin this research.

Go to Yelp.com.

Type in "Trust and Estate Attorney" (which is what you're actually looking for) in the search box, and your town.

I did it for Baltimore, but you may want to get closer to where you actually live if you're outside of the city itself.

Here's the result for Baltimore. Copy and paste this whole thing into the bar at the top of your internet browser --

Talk to your Hospice Social Worker. They may know of an Elder Care Attorney. They may not be able to recommend a specific one but might be able to give you a list.
Contact your local Senior Center they may also have a list of Elder Care Attorneys.
Contact the local court house they may also have a list of Elder Care Lawyers that often do business in the court house

Marie, you want to go to www.nelf.org to find a certified eldercare attorney.

Consider joining a church or other house of worship; none of this make this journey alone.

Do you have a NextDoor on your computer, in your area. They are great for real recommendations from real people.
I think that what you want is a Trust and Estate Attorney to make your will. If it is not complicated then you can use any attorney for a simple will, really. You should ask friends, any acquaintances in your area, for recommendations.
Other than that you are left to make calls to those advertising on the internet and ask them their charges for a simple will or trust or a complicated will or trust. Choose then the attorney near you who offers a decent price. This isn't rocket science. A simple will is a very simple procedure while some trusts can be more complicated.
Wish you the best. Sadly the computer IS the new yellow pages unless you get some personal recommendations. If there are senior centers in your area they may provide you with a list. Some hospice organizations have lists of attorneys they feel work fairly with seniors. I sure wish you good luck.

wcl4379, scroll to the bottom of the page.... at the bottom of the page in the center you will see ELDER LAW ATTORNEYS, click on that.... scroll down to the info section, now put in the info asking for city name and State.

That is how I found my Elder Law Attorney, and she has been outstanding.
