My mother practically lived on Ensure for years. I bought it for her because (I thought) it was better than what she was doing - coffee, sweets or not eating at all. In the NH, if patients couldn't chew even the ground and soft food, they gave them small containers of nutritional ice cream, pudding, drinks, etc. (At that stage of life, it was a last resort as Mom was declining so something was better than nothing)
I came across this article and was pretty shocked. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, maybe those of you who are still caregiving might be able to find alternatives in health food stores.
