My mom just moved in with us. She poops her pants sometimes, not sure how often since she just moved in with us, but I know she has had issues with this for awhile. I have no idea what kind of diaper she should use, or would a diaper pad suffice? She has very poor personal hygience, so my concern is a full diaper would be too much work for her to mess with daily. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your Mother needs a diaper for protection and I used the ones called Depends with my Mom and what I liked about them was that I could tear them on the sides if she had an accident and otherwise they were just like underpants. At night,in bed I always put a large kotex inside her Depends to absorb it in the night.I hope you find what works well for you.Good Luck~

Depends in your mom's size would be just like pull on underwear, except they absorb and contain the incontinency issue. I call my dad's Depends "absorbent underwear" and he doesn't mind wearing them -- it's just another kind of underwear. I think you're best off to go with a pull on absorbent undergarment, not just a pad.

I think a doctor would help her with this. Though there are many diapers available in the market but talking to a doctor about this would help a lot. As she is old she needs more proper care.

I bought Men's Depends for my father. I found this product was more like underwear and he didn't mind it as much. And it absorbed better and reduced the smell. I know its tough dealing with adult incontinence issues. If there is an issue with personal hygiene, do you think you could hire a personal caregiver to insists she gets at least 2 to 3 showers a week. I was home a lot to help my dad. When he had bad accidents even with the Depends, I would still put him the shower to get cleaned. I never wanted him to be uncomfortable. Even Walmart has a nice variety of products to choose from. I hope you can find something to make your mom comfortable.

Camouflagewoman, it's good that you're researching this issue. Continence care is one of the hardest aspects for people who are new to looking after their close family members, because you're up against such a difficult, personal problem.

You will find lots of practical guidance and advice on the manufacturers' own websites. No need to be cynical about their just wanting to sell more pads, because it's in their interest for their customers to find the best, most comfortable and effective, products for their individual needs.

You may also find that your GP can put you in touch with a specialist Continence Care nurse who can help you with all of the related stuff too, such as skin integrity and maintaining good hygiene. It's best to get firmly to grips with all of this early on, then you'll have a much better chance of avoiding (even) more serious problems like u.t.i.'s and pressure sores further down the line.

Best of luck with it, and please let us know how you're doing.

Personally I don't like that a lot of the brands started making these adult pull up diapers in colors such as purple and orange
I found Walgreens still has a unisex white color pull up however mom wets herself more than poos so not sure how it would handle #2
Most of the folks at mom's facility don't wear pull ups as staff prefers the wrap around kind like a baby diaper as it is more secure and easier to change

Hi camouflagewoman, did you end up finding a good brand of adult briefs?
