Good Morning, we have decided my parents could stay in their house. I like this choice, but ever since we have to organize that. Now it is the haircut, and maybe a bit more beauty service. Anyone has an experience of that ? They are located in Georgia. Thank you

When my mom no longer felt up to going to a hair salon I asked her stylist if she would come to our home to cut her hair. This was pre COVID days.

Her stylist said that she would love to but was too busy at the salon to leave and since she recently had a baby she was going to cut back on her hours at work.

So I had to find another stylist. I was certainly lucky because the very first salon that I called said that they would gladly come to my house and cut and style mom’s hair.

I don’t know if I would want someone in my home during Covid but if you want to do this then call salons near your parents house and possibly you will find someone.

I don't know the status of Covid-19 in the area you are dealing with, but quite honestly I would not have anyone coming and going now from a house who have been coming and going from OTHER houses unless their services were necessary to life. We have a vaccine; one vaccinated you will be able to be a bit more lax in this, as there will be a 90% protection.

Did Mom have a hairdresser before? If so ask her/him if they can come to your home. Call your County Office of Aging and see if they know if anyone.

I just read your profile. It shows that your mom is living in independent living.

There are many YouTube videos on cutting your own hair. My mom has cut her own hair before, long before YouTube even existed!

Is it possible for your mom to cut her own hair and polish her own nails?

You really have no way of knowing if a person will bring in Covid to her home.

I see that you are in Georgia. My niece is in Georgia. She was an anti masker and a denier. She got COVID! I hope that your mom is following protocols.

Thankfully, she is okay but it could have gone the other way.

She texted me to wish me a happy new year and I asked her how she was. She said, “It’s not any worse than the flu.”

As much as I wanted to scream, I let it go. Some people refuse to see the entire picture. In other words, they see only what they want to see.

I’m smart enough to know that I can’t convince my niece of anything and decided not to waste my time and energy.

Is your mom aware of the risk that she would be taking allowing a stylist to enter her home.

With the covid-19, getting a hair cut, skin care, and nail care should be at the very bottom of one's list, or off the list. Waaaaay to high risk !!

I haven't gone to the hair dresser going since the start of the covid in early January 2020. My sig-other had since cut my hair twice, it was long so it was easy as he just cut it straight across the back. I was in sheer panic as he had never cut hair before. The cut came out pretty good. He said, there, you saved $65 and it only took 2 minutes.

As for sig-other, who use to look very professional, he now looks like the lead of the Grateful Dead band. Pretty soon he will need to do either a pony tail or man bun. I don't mind this as he is playing it safe, and it is definitely a different look for him :)

Hi, I agree, this is not vital, but if she feels really better after that and we can do it "safe" ... I mean as much as possible : mask, gloves and outside on the porch (weather permitting) ... I took JoAnn29 advice and called Fulton County Aging department. It took a while to get an answer ... but they have a referral database for vendors they vouch for. And in this listing they recommend a company from Atlanta that has a network of mobile hairstylists (www.dash-stylists.com). I called and they recommended 2 stylists in their network. Not have booked yet, but I probably will. I want also to try to call a couple of hair salons in the neighborhood to see if they might come out. Thanks for your answers y'all.
