My dad has been getting up at night and opening the door to the outsider.
When watching him he will just stand and look outside or open the screen door and stand and look. Is there a door alarm that will alert me if sleeping? but not scare him? At this point, I'm not worried about him going outside, he hates the cold but him having Alzheimers things are subject to change hourly.

Thank you.

There is a door alarm that looks like the old fashioned door stops, wedge shaped. You place it by the door and if the door is opened the top part of the "doorstop" will depress triggering an alarm. I found it sold as a an alarm someone uses for travel to be placed by a hotel door.
You can always place a eye and hook lock at the top of the door. No one looks up...so putting it up higher will be safer.

You can't trust that he won't go out, dementia knows no logic.

Try placing a simple slide lock at the top of the door where he is less apt to spot it.

And a motion detector alarm or a pressure sensor alarm mat by his bedroom door to let you know he is wandering in the night.
