Anyone dealt with Medicaid and what they offer for home care for elderly once on Medicaid in Ohio? Just wondering what your experiences are. If they provide good in-home care, if it's a pain, if it's strict? My mom has dementia. Just needs help bathing and making sure she doesn't walk off, and cooking, cleaning, chores. Thanks for any input.

Contact your county senior office or your area Agency on Agency. Sometimes the county office is guided by the area Agency on Aging. Ex. In Warren County, the 741 Center is local. They will assign a social worker to do an in home assessment. They will take all insurance and financial information, do a needs assessment to determine how much help is needed per week and how much assistance is available. They will then assign to a local home health provider. They will call you to set up time, etc. The billing for services will be in the case of Warren County be assigned to the Southwest Area Agency on Aging. They also handle Hamilton, Butler and Clermont counties. If the person is on Medicaid and eligible for some home health they will bill directly to the State. If they determine you have enough assets they may bill you directly for a small sliding scale fee. It's not a difficult process and the social worker will walk you thru this. Generally bath assistance is twice weekly. Cleaning is a certain number of hours every two weeks. Shopping assistance is also available, transportation to appointments. If you are looking for full-time support to stay with Mom you will most likely have to apply for a Medicaid waiver. Sometimes there is a lengthy wait for the waiver program because there aren't that many waivers available.
