My step father passed almost one year ago and I was told he left me a trust fund. How would I know? He was in another state.

POA is null and void upon death. You need to find out who the executor is. This is on file at probate where ur Uncle lived. The executor has to contact all will reciprants in 60 days that they r in the will. Probate should be able to tell you how to contact the executor.

If your Step-father had left you a Trust Fund chances are you would have heard about it by now, that is if your Step-father had your current address and telephone on file with the Attorney who drew up the Trust. If the law firm cannot find you, then they would publish in the local paper of your last address about the Probate Court.

Now, if the Trust wasn't set up or put into a Revocable Trust, maybe everything is still in Probate, and that can sometimes take up to a year to close.

Do you know what Attorney your Step-father had used? If yes, give the law firm a call. Do you know who was your Step-father's Power of Attorney? If yes, give that person a call. Hopefully the distribution hasn't been made or the case closed, if closed it might be difficult to re-open it as there is no more money in the estate.
