I am in NYC and I was wondering how do I find out how much I have used from Community Medicaid. I retired at 65 and I have Medicare since then. I am currently on Medicare saving programs. The Medicare Savings Program (MSP) is a Medicaid-administered program available to Medicare consumers with limited income. If you qualify, this program will pay your Medicare Part B premium. and other cost-sharing expenses. Ever since I applied for MSP, Medicare Advantage Plans becomes my health insurance and I use it to see doctor, specialist, lap work, dental / eye care & prescription drugs. My understanding is that Medicare pay first and whatever Medicare does not cover then Medicaid pays the rest. So my question is how do I find out how much Medicaid has paid on my behalf? Also, is this type of medical assistance subject to recovery?! Anyone has experience with this with their elderly parents? Thanks.

My father had MSP, I don't remember him getting bills or statements showing what Medicaid paid. As far as I know, this type of assistance is not subject to recovery. He didn't have any assets, and his SS check was low enough to qualify for the MSP. I don't know if it is different if you own property though.

Since Medicaid administers it, then this is a question for Medicaid. Medicaid does not send out statements telling you what they cover. Your Medicare Advantage pays first and Medicaid picks up the balance. Not sure about Medicaid recovery. There is something about receiving Medicaid before a certain age. You should have been assigned a caseworker.

Like mstrbill and JoAnn, I don't think that this is something subject to recovery, and if it WERE you would have had all sort of forms to fill in about your accounts, assets, homes, cars, and gifting with 5 year look-back.

Found online:

"Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coordination-benefits...

Coordination of Benefits & Recovery Overview | CMS
Sep 10, 2024 · The Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) program is in place to ensure that Medicare is aware of situations where it should not be the primary, or first, payer of claims. If a beneficiary has Medicare and other health insurance, Coordination of Benefits (COB) rules decide which...(blah blah blah)."

It's a BIG site so play around on it. And you will have contact information also for your question which is a GOOD one. I believe that your advantage plan program (call their number) can ALSO answer it for you.
If you DO call it would be lovely if you let us know THE answer. It's a good question, and this sharing of information and experience on the page? It's all we got!

I actually did call the rep said he does not know since he's only customer service. That's why I post the question here figured someone must have gone through this before and know something about it. I only fill out the renewal form for MSP, this is different from the forms that you are referring to right?

You need to call Social Services. There should be a caseworker assigned to you. Why are you worrying about this? If there is a recovery it will be after you die. If by then you have no assets, there will be no recovery. If you have a house at the time of your death, a lien will be placed on it, and the house will need to be sold to pay the lien. Your family will not be responsible for a Medicaid debt.
