Have you tried taking her to a senior center-where they provide meals, as well as care. Many of them even offer transportation. Another option would be to possibly have a neighbor come in-and encourage her to eat. Lastly, since I know so little about your Mom---is she infact capable of eating?
Both the ensure and pudding are good suppliments in the meantime...until you are able to get to the bottom of things. My Mom-who had a dementia, did not know even how to eat-and she was on a puree diet.

Make an eye appealing meal on a real plate and add yogurt with pieces of small canned tropical fruit. in a small cup and a nutrious sandwich of thinly sliced turkey (or such), fresh lettuce, tomato and mayonaise....cover with plastic wrap, pour a small glass of milk and stick it all in the refrigerator. I do it something similiar, every day.

Maybe she is not that hungry at lunch leave some fruit or ensure available and if she wants it she can easily get she may also want to have some decisions to make on her own when my Mom did not want to eat and made a face at me I would let her take what she wanted to put on her plate and did not say anything about what she did or did not want to eat. At her age and probably with little activity she may just not need 3 meals a day or ask her what she would like left for her while you are at work.

My mother likes jello, usually red or orange and I put fruit in it (fruit cocktail, mandarin oranges, peaches). I make 2 small packages at a time and it will usually last a week. She also likes sliced marbled cheese with club crackers, cantaloupe, watermelon, hot dogs and ice cream. If she can use a microwave soup, stew and chili are also foods she'll warm up.
Good Luck!

Your mother needs COMPANY to eat. She may be forgetting how to eat,and needs to mimic. Also having company makes ANY meal better! My mother would not eat if she were left alone. Why not try to have someone VISIT with her... or like someone else said, have her go to a senior center during the day WITH instructions that she is not eating enough. Also... be sure to have her evaluated with a 'food coach therapist' so she maintains her ability to eat.

God Bless

I have someone to come in just for an hour each for breakfast and lunch to prepare my mom something to eat that is appetizing to her. The lady asks my mom what she would like, and they go from there. If there isn't anything that she would prefer, you could try staple foods and simple meats or proteins.

My uncle didn't eat alot and it seemed like it was bad for him. But I realized that he just didn't need to eat 3 meals a day to be happy or healthy. Ensure is great. You could also boost her health with vitamins your Dr can suggest. She could drink Ensure in the day and eat with you in the evening. Also, I asked my uncle what he would like to eat foodwise if given a choice and I tried to make extra to put in the fridge. When he knew something he really liked was already in the fridge he actually wanted to eat more often. That was usually weekends. During the week, I got him Meals on Wheels delivery. They were great and would stay to set up the meal and I think he ate more because kind strangers were bringing him food and he wanted to be polite. Whatever works right? One really big thing is to make sure she gets enough liquids. That was hard to get him to do because he didn't want to walk to the bathroom alot. Ensure and other healthy drinks help with that. Best wishes to you and your mom. Karen
