(She put me on her acct years ago so that if something happened to her I could pay bills.). The monthly bills are sent to me, my name and address, with her as the patient. I pay them from her acct. My question is should the bills be addressed to her., and if she ever goes on Medicaid how will this effect that if at all? Should I call the pharmacy and change this or does it even matter? Hoping it’s a non issue.

As long as her name is on the bills as the patient, I'd think it's OK.

My mom's pharmacy did the same thing but didn't even have her name on there at all. I finally told them her name had to be on there or her taxes would be messed up for the medical deductions.

Now she's listed as the patient, but the bills are addressed to me.

It is my opinion that you are considered, with this as the "responsible party" for this person (your Mom). So I don't like this manner of doing things at all. I was POA and Trustee of Trust for my brother. The ALF bills came to his name, c/o me, to pay out of his account with his checks which were signed by me as Trustee or as his name, by my name as POA. We had careful documents, made the changes at the banks, contacted all entities, supplemental insurance, bills, etc. I arranged a file full of folders for each entity, kept all receipts, gave my brother a monthly accounting. Every T crossed and every I dotted. To me that is the easiest way to go, and the safest, and the only one that cannot be questioned at any point. I would see an attorney to discuss.

As long as you have PoA and her name is as the patient you are OK. Make sure the financial institution has a copy of the PoA on record and make sure on the check memo section provide invoice number you are OK. You might want to sign the check as your mom's name / your signature AS PoA even if the account has your name. This will prevent questions in the future.

This made me think of something that happened to me. I had paid Moms medical bills out of her checking account. I found out that she could be reimbursed for these bills. (Forget the circumstances) I sent all the original bills showing they had been paid. All but one got reimbursed because, the doctors name was not on the stub I kept of the original invoice. That doctor had his name and address on the part you send with the check but not on the part I kept. So now, if this happens I take a copy of the whole invoice before making payment.
