she starting counting few months ago but just here and there hospice put her on haldol she got worse and is off it now. She is bedridden against my beliefs, i have no say in her care due to conservatorship issues. I think she is bored and upset. she recently had her home remodeled and has no memorabiliam to familiarize herself .no pictures on walls etc her home is completely different this was by brother who became power of attorney/conservator.& threw most of her belogings out to start anew. UGH!!! long story but i think her behavior is due to stress. i am only allowed to see her for 1 hr 2xwk he lives 6hrs away never here what do u think? caregivers come n go all day night. btw we arent on speaking terms sibling rivalry ive tried to get counsel he rfuses

I think you're right in that her counting may be due to anxiety. If she's on hospice her caregivers should be administering anti-anxiety meds. If they aren't, why not?

If she is on Hospice, I would think they, the doctor and her POA, would have discussed her care. I have no idea why she would not be provided something to treat her anxiety if she is in the last stage of dementia.

I remember saying to my moms doctor that she really wasn't speaking in sentences anymore then at christmas the boy scouts made shut in christmas balls and came over and sang some songs. To my suprise my mom sang every word of Rudolph red nose reindeer and silent night. My mom could just about get out a yes or no but could say every word of hail MARY and our father. Maybe you could try and sign a song with her, doc said that is the last part of the memory that goes. Good luck, sounds like you may be between a rock and a hard place.

Nurse, there are Lawrwnce well shows and music on you tube if you have a phone with those capabilities. Could use that until you find a CD. I would also play my mom music without words. This seemed to help calm her. Her favorite was the Celtic women music.
