I have been caring and taking care of home, etc. since last fall. I got him through treatments and was told ca. gone from stomach, pancreas and liver. God blessed us with a miracle. Weakness in his legs have kept him from driving and I haven't driven for at least 5 yrs. as I have uncontrollable migraines. We live in country and have been depending on friends. Plus he is a 21 yr. retired vet. Our Madison cty. office for aging in New York has been useless. I have been struggling with trying to find pill or anything for diabetes that I am not allergic to and a couple other health issues. So overwhelmed as I need to sell home and relocate because I can't do everything by myself anymore. Husband can do some things but really doesn't. Something happened when he was in a rehabilitation place where he was garabling his words. Sent to hospital but never was given any diagnosis. He was better next day acting like nothing happened. I think he had a small TIA myself. But wondering if anyone knew what they would look for some medical transportation. Local VA facility isn't helpful now either. Thanks for listening to us caregivers. Oh he has been smoking since teenager and still is. Looking to hear from others and hoping to support them.
So don't depend on doctors to help your husband sort out what happened to him during treatment. Unfortunately, we're on our own in that department since every body responds differently to treatment.
As far as your diabetes goes, you can call an Uber to see your doctor or Endocrinologist. Why do you need medical transport? A cab will do, or, if you use a wheelchair, Google "wheelchair transport" in your area.
Hire a helper to assist you with moving. Someone who has a driver's license and a strong back to help you pack and move. Decide on an hourly rate ahead of time. You can look on Care.com or put an ad online for a person to help you.
Wishing you the best of luck with all of this.
Yes, you need to locate where there are services and Doctor's closer to you. Office of Aging usually has a Senior bus for appts and shopping. Medicaid also supplies transportation but you need to fit their criteria.
Did your husband served during wartime? If so, there is Aid and Attendence for those who qualify. Weakness in your husbands legs could be caused by the chemo. Its a side effect. The shuffling of his feet could be a sign of Parkinsons.
Your pills, the only person who can help you there is an encronologist.
I think when you move, you may find more resourses.
My mom's town in NYS has 2 thrift stores , with volunteers only, and the money goes back to the community.
And I know we have had people in are community that volunteers there time to bring people to doctors offices.
You could call all your local fire companys and every place to see if they know of any place you can go. Also maybe reach out to your local, America legions and elk's, those I would do first sence your husband is a vet. VFW also.
But joann's suggestion is probably the best, you need to find some place closer.
