My grandparents are both very social people, as far back as I can remember there's always been a dinner party, a fundraising gala, or other gathering on their agenda. Living in the south will do that I guess. My grandad, otherwise known to everyone everywhere as T-paw, especially thrives on close interaction.


He's been struggling more and more with boredom as he loses the ability to do certain things (although he's still a hell of a poker player). Now that it's clear covid will continue unchecked, the boredom and isolation have really taken root.


I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions to help alleviate boredom, engage his mind, and help him feel more connected to the world.

For some reason I thought of Norman Cousins and his work with laughter.
He was the one who watched funny tv shows and movies and used laughter as a way to find pain relief. Since your father is a social person he might really benefit from a comedy movie afternoon each week or even daily.

Recently while watching “Keeping Up Appearances” with my dh aunt, 93, I recorded her on my phone laughing at the antics of Hyacinth. It’s become a ritual for DH and I to watch it with her on Saturday evenings when we spend the weekend with her. We were surprised at how much she enjoyed it.

Get them out of the house. If it is only to drink milkshakes and ride through the country.

Set up daily Zoom calls with family and friends and write letters. Encourage others to do the same.
