My mother has always coughed. She says she must have a cold. I know she doesn't. Cough syrup seems to help, but she won't take it. She has coughed for as long as I can remember. Spring, summer, fall and winter. My house and my brother's houses. Could it be alergeries?

Hi SuziQ, my Mom has coughed all her life it seems. She used to take so much cough syrup. She first thought she had a nasal drip problem-which your mom could have if syrup helps. An Ears nose and throat doc would know. My mom had something cauterized in her nose and that did seem to help for awhile. Lately she was coughing and the doc said it was reflux and she is on meds for that and she does seem to cough less. She used to cough all night. You could get an alergy test done on your Mom to see if it is allergies. The doctor would prick your Mom's skin on her arm ( I think) with different allergens-and then wait for a bit for a reaction. We did this with my daughter who hs special needs and she handled the test ok though it took a bit of time. I would definitely get her checked out. Good luck!

Dysphagia? Post-nasal drip tickles back of throat. My mom has eternal post-nasal drip. I just make sure she does not choke. It was suggested she try allergy pills too.
