Back story is Aunt is finally out of quarantine so we are planning to visit her. We plan to make the first visit brief and see if she needs anything and how she is doing. We got the ball rolling for the Medicaid paperwork so now it’s just a waiting game. Not sure if she will recognize us as she didn’t when she was in the hospital with her UTI and high BP about 2 weeks ago, and we know she will not be happy that we put her there but we really did not have any other choices as home care was out of the question.

Wish us luck 🍀

I go almost every day and stay 15-30 minutes.

My LO is in hospice care but fairly stable.

I visit my dad every 7-10 days for about 30 minutes. He knows who I am, but we did not have a good relationship. That is all I can handle.

Maine127, when an older person is in a hospital setting they can develop delirium [which is common] thus confusion sets in. In those 2 weeks, chances are the urinary tract infection and the high blood pressure will be all under control. The blood pressure meds could make your Aunt feel tired until she gets use to the meds.

As to how often to visit, it all depends on your time schedule and how the love one reacts to a visit.

When my Dad moved to senior living, I went every day until I felt he had settled in, then I started to cut back the number of times during the week and how long I would stay. Dad had other visitors so that helped. I wanted Dad to get use to his surroundings, start to recognize the Staff, and the other residents.

Thanks well the delirium is def set in as she didn’t recognize either one of us. Her hearing seems to have gotten worse and we had to write everything down we wanted to ask her. She of course had hearing aids but we could only find one of them and the NH said do not bother bringing one. I guess you could say the visit went as well as it could considering she didn’t know who we were
The nurse suggested maybe coming 2-3 times a week for now but no more since she seemed to get agitated when we were leaving and don’t want the staff to deal with her irate behavior if that should happen
