My MIL has dementia and is living in a wonderful AL facility out-of-town. My husband goes to see her at least once a month and I accompany him when my work schedule allows for it. It's obvious her confusion is increasing with each visit. I don't know that they've made any attempt to diagnose her particular dementia and I'm not sure it would make any difference. She rarely talks about her beloved late husband any more. She asks the same 10 questions repeatedly over the course of our visit. She also tells us all about the conversations she's been having with all of her (deceased) siblings and wants to go visit her mother. We just smile and let her continue because we figure if we told her all those loved ones were dead she would get upset and then forget it in the next 5 minutes. She's in otherwise good health and it's a completely different issue than it is with my step-mother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Has anyone else experienced this with a loved one?

My mom just made the move from Assisted Living to Long Term Care, which was a very easy transition to my surprise. My mom tells me that if she goes down the hallway she sees the ladies she used to work with, I just go along with her. She has dementia.

It is new wonderful day everyday for people has A or D... It's will stop asking some old questions soon or later, so we are the caregivers just be "PATIENT".
I do accept who they are and this is part of our life, maybe someday I would be one of them. I always do agree with her/ him/ them.

What you are dealing with is one of the fifty or so kinds of dementia. And I agree, I'm not sure it makes a lot of difference at this point what kind it is.I think you are wise to just let her talk about her delusions without correcting her.

Sometimes my mothers hallucinating becomes rather loud and she thinks she is at work ( she is a retired RN) and asking me ( I'm a RN) what the Dr said about this and that , then she gets into talking into the phone without picking up,the receiver arguing about her schedule ...she says " so I work sat 7 to 3 , sun 3 to 11 and it goes on and on until I could claw my eyes out , and of course she's 80 hasn't worked in 10 years on the phone talking into it without the receiver picked up ,mad because her work schedule is a mess ... Dear God save me ... This went on forever , I tried redirecting , I tried playing along ( she told me to be quiet until she figures out her schedule .. ) I tried reality orientation , as a last resort , she till me I must be dumb and to get her a pen...Good Lord I went out of my mind ..I left the room and had to get out of that crazy mess .... Sometimes every approach I take doesn't work ... my nerves are bad for the past 2 days ...,
