Had to bring mother (96) from home country to live with us. Working full time and trying to care for her. No health insurance or any hope for it ever. With pandemic she never renewed her residency in US. Is there anyone out there with same experience? If so would appreciate some advice as I am becoming more tired and expect the situation to be worse with time. She has severe short term memory loss, severe osteoporosis and mobility issues but takes no chronic medications. Cared for her 25 yrs ago when she had cancer but was mentally and physically able, very different situation.
Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point. Maybe it just gets to the point where you have to quit or get fired to dedicate 247 to your mom.
Is your Mom on a Visa or greencard?
If greencard I just read they are good for 10 yrs before needing to reapply. So Mom would have been here 10 years when it expired meaning after 5 yrs she could have applied for Medicaid. If a Greencard I would call the agency that handles them. COVID effected alot of government offices, hopefully by now they are catching up. See if you can renew. Also ask if the lag in renewing will effect the 10 yrs she was declared a resident. If not, she should be able to get Medicaid.
